You Believe in God… so what
Many people believe in the stock market, but have no stock. So this belief does not help them at all.
Hundreds of people believe in seat belts in their car, but never use them. This seems rather foolish. Are these things any more foolish than the man who says he believes in God, and yet has no contact with Him, when contact can be made? We can know Him.
God was made known to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. He came to earth to die for our sins, and to show us what the Father was really like. He taught that apart from Him, we cannot really know God, the Father. Therefore, our faith and trust must be put in Jesus Christ. In other words, we are made sure of eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ.
You say you believe in God – so what, if you have never done anything about it. Belief is not real without the action implied in the belief. Our astronauts have experienced space travel as a reality. They have put their lives under discipline and training and severe risk, because they believe in it.
When we say we believe in Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord, we are saying that we are committing everything to Him, for better or worse. This phrase sounds familiar, and it is. When a man takes a woman for better or for worse, he is saying, in the best way possible, “I love you and believe in you: you are the one with whom I want to share the rest of my life.”
Sometimes our faith in these matters is misplaced, but it is never misplaced when put into the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is exactly what He came to tell us; that He loves us so much that He would come all the way to earth for us, in the midst of our sin and suffering, to die for us. He came right to the heart of our problems and took them upon Himself. Therefore, we know that He is ready to help us and forgive us at any time, in any matter, if we are willing to commit our all to Him. This is what believing is all about!
How, then, does one go about this business of believing? Through committal. Through surrender. Through saying to God that we realize our own sin and weakness, but also believe in His strength and forgiveness. Then we invite Him in to take over our lives, that He might do His will in us. It is a transfer of faith, for you do have faith, you know! You apply this faith in various ways each day, from mailing a letter to driving an automobile. In these and other ways you show you have faith in things quite unseen and unforeseen. Transfer this faith, this belief, to God. Ask Him to forgive your sins through His Son, Jesus Christ. Then accept His forgiveness! Begin talking to Him in prayer. Start reading His letter to you in the Bible. Actively trust Him by doing as He tells you to do. Stop worrying, by putting your active trust in Him, and not in yourself. Share this trust with others.
This is faith, believing that what God has said that He will do, He will do! Then, acting upon it, take Jesus Christ as Lord of your life today!
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 “By Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Acts 13:39
You believe in God. So what. It means nothing unless you are in contact with Him through Jesus Christ.
