Where will You Spend Eternity?
MY FRIEND, the most important question in all the world to you is the salvation of your soul. Comparatively, it makes little difference about your success in the world — how much money you make, your standing among men, how highly you are educated, or about the many other things that men usually esteem and seek after; “for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” Luke 16:15. But it makes all the difference in the world where you will spend eternity. At most, you will be in this world but a short time. You will be in eternity a long, long time, and it makes all the difference whether you spend that never-ending period as a child of God surrounded with all the glories, beauties, and wonders of Heaven, or apart from God in the Lake that burns with fire and brimstone.
You may feel that you are not a very great sinner. But, if you have violated God’s holy and perfect law even in one point, you are as guilty and as lost as the vilest sinner on earth. “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10. The righteousness of the best man on earth is but filthy rags in God’s sight (Isaiah 64:6), and the morally good and bad all stand on the same basis before Him. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.’’ (Romans 3:23) “There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10)
Then you may believe you are such a great sinner that God will not save you; but I tell you that God says, “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” John 6:37
This means that the greatest sinner that ever lived may come to God for salvation. Jesus says, “And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” Revelation 22:17, and this includes you.
The most important news you ever heard is that ‘’…God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
This is the Gospel, the good news from Heaven, and now all you have to do to be saved is to accept as true what Jesus did for you. The moment you take your place as a sinner before God, accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you have forgiveness of sins and peace with God through the all-perfect work and merit of Christ who ever stands before God as your substitute and intercessor (Romans 8:31-34). Jesus says, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” John 5:24
God is even now pleading with you and with lost men everywhere to come to Him and receive eternal life as a free gift. Every time you hear the preaching of the Gospel, it is really the voice of God beseeching you to be reconciled to Him (II Corinthians 5:20). The Holy Spirit is even now pleading with you through these words to come to Him for salvation. Won’t you yield to that pleading and let Him speak peace to your troubled heart? If you will do this, please sign the confession of faith: “Realizing that I am a sinner in the sight of God, and believing that Jesus died for my sins according to the Scriptures, I now accept Him as my Saviour. Depending upon His help, I yield my life to Him, and know on the authority of His Word that I have everlasting life.” (See John 6:47).
Now, if you will seek the fellowship of true believers, attend regularly a church where the Gospel is preached, read your Bible daily, and have a time and place for secret prayer, you will live a useful and happy Christian life.
