NOR SILVER NOR GOLD
Nor silver nor gold hath obtained my redemption,
Nor riches of earth could have saved my poor soul;
The blood of the cross is my only foundation,
The death of my Saviour now maketh me whole.

Chorus:
I am redeemed, but not with silver;
I am bought, but not with gold;
Bought with a price - the blood of Jesus,
Precious price of love untold.

Nor silver nor gold hath obtained my redemption,
The guilt on my conscience too heavy had grown;
The blood ofthe cross is my only foundation,
The death of my Saviour could only atone.

Nor silver nor gold hath obtained my redemption,
The holy commandment forbade me draw near;
The blood of the cross is my only foundation,
The death of my Saviour removeth my fear.

Nor silver nor gold hath obtained my redemption,
The way into heaven could not thus be bought;
The blood of the cross is my only foundation,
The death of my Saviour redemption hath wrought.

Dear Friend, I would like you to accept this as a PERSONAL letter to you. Let us suppose that we are sitting in your home, your office, or probably in your car, and THINK UPON THESE THINGS with me, for it is of vital importance. It concerns your eternal welfare - your soul’s salvation.

“God is no respecter of persons” says the Word of God in Acts 10:34, and in Romans 3:22,23 the Apostle Paul wrote; “ ... There is no difference: for ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

As God looks down upon the children of men (Psalm 14:2,3) or as we would say, upon the whole world, He does not see or classify the people as being Jews, or Roman Catholics, or Protestants. But God sees the individual as lost, guilty and already condemned before Him (John 3:18). And God sees each person incapable in himself of doing anything whatsoever, that would or could make him fit for Heaven. And friend, if you have not already received and claimed Jesus Christ as YOUR personal Saviour, that is exactly how God sees YOU- absolutely helpless and hopeless in yourself of ever attaining entrance to heaven.

Now, let us reason together for a few moments. It is possible that like thousands of well-meaning people, you have insisted that if you do the very best you can, live a good moral life, help the needy, go to church and be faithful to your particular religion, and follow the golden rule, God will surely receive you into His heavenly Home. But-dear friend, think for a moment-does it seem reasonable and logical to you, that if it were possible for you or me to gain heaven by living a good moral life, and doing the very best we can, that God would have allowed His only begotten Son to go through all the anguish, sufferings and ordeals leading to Calvary?

I want you to think of Calvary and try to picture in your mind Jesus, the sinless, spotless Son of God, standing condemned before Pilate. Can you see the soldiers as they press the crown of thorns upon His brow? The blood trickles down His face. They pull at His beard-they spit in His face-they mock Himand having scourged Him, they lay the heavy cruel Cross upon His shoulder and He is led as a sheep to the slaughter as He makes His way towards Calvary. At Calvary Jesus is nailed to the Cross. The spikes are driven through His hands and feet, and then He is lifted up, hanging as it were between heaven and earth. Then to CAP it all, a soldier took a spear and drove it through Jesus’ side, and blood and water gushed out. So terrific and severe were the agony and sufferings of Jesus, that God would not allow the public to see the transaction that was taking place, and He cast a veil of total darkness over the scene for three hours.

Friend, let me once again ask you this question; if it were possible for you or me to be saved and cleansed and forgiven from our sins, and to be sure of heaven by living a good life and doing the very best we can, do you think that God would have allowed His dearly beloved Son to gothrough all that ordeal? Would He? THINK ON THESE THINGS!

Here are the FACTS: Jesus went to Calvary because there was absplutely NOTHING that you or I could do to obtain forgiveness of sins. ALL our righteousnesses, our very best, are as filthy rags in God’s sight (Isaiah 64:6), and “ ... God so loved the world (including YOU). that He gave His ONLY begotten Son, that whosoever (meaning YOU) believeth in Him should not perish, but HAVE everlasting life” John 3:16. So Jesus went to Calvary in YOUR stead-He died the DEATH that You should have died-and He bore YOUR sins in His own body on the tree (1 Peter 2:24). “For He (God) hath made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor. 5:21). Thus Jesus became your Substitute and your Sin-bearer.

Friend of mine, Jesus wants you to receive Him as YOUR personal Saviour NOW. May I bring to your attention that there is no guarantee whatever that you will be alive tomorrow, nor even an hour from now. God declares in His Word “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1). And when you pass from this life, you enter into an endless eternity. Your decision as to whether you ACCEPT or REJECT Jesus Christ as YOUR personal Saviour will determine where you will spend eternity, which of necessity will be either Heaven with God and His saints, or in the torments of hell with the devil and his angels.

God in His infinite mercy has given you this opportunity to hear of His GIFT of salvation. He has given you this opportunity for you to reach out in simple faith and claim Jesus Christ as YOUR Saviour. Won’t you put your implicit TRUST in what Jesus has done for you at Calvary? In doing so, you will KNOW and experience the FACT that “ ... The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from ALL sin” (I John 1:7). You will also KNOW from the very depth of your heart that “ ... Being justified by FAITH, we have PEACE with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," Romans 5:1, and that “There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION to them which are IN Christ Jesus ... “ Romans 8:1, and you will be able to place your hand INTO His hand and KNOW that in Him “ ... We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7.

Jesus says: “I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by ME” John 14:6. In Acts 4:12 we read, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is NONE other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." And in Ephesians 2:8 and 9 the Apostle Paul writes,"For by GRACE are ye saved through FAITH; and that NOT of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast."

I would therefore urge you dear friend to “THINK ON THESE THINGS” and take that all important step of receiving Jesus Christ as YOUR personal Saviour NOW, and KNOW the love of Christ which passeth knowledge (Ephesians 3:19) and the PEACE of God which passeth all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
