The Passover Night in Egypt
Before Pharaoh, the Egyptian king, was willing to let them go, God sent 10 plagues on the land. The last plague was the death of the firstborn son in every family EXCEPTING those families that killed a lamb, instead, and sprinkled the blood of the slain lamb outside the door. The children of Israel did as God commanded them, and killed the lamb, a lamb to each family, and sprinkled the blood outside on the doorposts. That night, when the death Angel went through the land he PASSED OVER every house where he found the shed blood applied; but he went in and destroyed the firstborn son in every home WHERE THERE WAS NO BLOOD.
This speaks to us of Christ. Judgment is coming to the people today as it did then. Those who believe God that judgment is coming and believe God as to how to avoid that judgment will PUT THEIR FAITH IN CHRIST FOR HE IS THE “PASSOVER LAMB” SLAIN FOR US. Those who are “under the precious blood of Jesus,” by faith, are the ones who will escape the Judgment to come.
Our artist represents the people in Egypt at that time, under four groups. The upper two represent those who killed the lamb and sprinkled the blood on their houses, as God commanded. One group represents those who are “safe but without assurance.” There are multitudes of Christians like that today. They are trusting in Christ, alright, for their salvation, BUT THEY LACK ASSURANCE. They can’t say, “I KNOW that I’m saved.” The trouble is they don’t rest upon God’s promise that HE WILL “PASS OVER” ALL WHO ARE DEPENDING ON THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST — HIS SHED BLOOD — FOR THEIR SALVATION. The fact is, this group is JUST AS SAFE as the ones in the other upper house, but they are not as COMFORTABLE. They are safe because they are under the blood. They are secure because God said so.“When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you,” Exodus 12:13. Every person who is trusting in Christ and His atonement for salvation is SAVED and SAFE. Let every person who is fully trusting in Christ, and not their own works, REST ASSURED that God will keep faith with them! He will never go back on His promise! He has promised, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.” John 3:16. God cannot go back on His Word.
The two groups in the lower picture are BOTH LOST, because neither has obeyed God’s Word about the sprinkling of the blood of the lamb. One group is lost and indifferent — giving no heed to the warnings of God, and rushing heedlessly on to their awful doom. The other group is trying the vain route of “self reform” to get right with God. They are just as much lost as the totally indifferent, for the only salvation God provides is through the shed blood of the Sacrificial Lamb, Christ, who died for our sins. God commands the whole world to repent, and “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29
