Sliding into hell on a Church Pew

Sliding into hell on a Church Pew

SLIDING into hell from a church pew is a sad and tragic but positively true experience of countless multitudes. They are intensely religious, but are speeding their way into Hell in a stupor of self-satisfaction and a false hope. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12. Eternal death, the second death, the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:14). But, “I am very religious,” you say. That does not mean a thing. The devil is very religious and so are his ministers. “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.” II Corinthians 11:13.

Do you marvel at this, my Reader? Does this seem strange to your ears? Let us read this next scripture together. “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” II Corinthians 11:14,15. Transformed into an angel of light. Beware my friend, Christ said, “If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:23. It is much harder to reach a soul in this state of being. Do you ask why? Because the darkness is greater in the religious souls than in the publicans and harlots.

Dear reader, do you want to know how Satan fools multitudes? Don’t let him fool you for he certainly has got a masterpiece. Now you know as I do that the devil is not concerned about the drunkard, thief, publican, or the harlot. These people would never help his cause. The devil seeks to imitate God, and what would suit his purpose better than religion? Something that comes out of the Bible. He is most dangerous when he is in the pulpit with a Bible in his hand.

l don’t believe it, you say. Let me ask you one question. Who was it that sponsored or engineered the crucifixion of Christ? Was it the harlot, the drunkard, the thief, or the murderers? It was the religious group of that day when Christ was on earth. “And when He was accused of the chief priests and elders, (the religious group if you please), He answered nothing. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas and destroy Jesus.” Matthew 27:12,20. This religious group preferred a murderer in place of Christ.

The Religous Group Lost
“Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, (Chief priests and Elders), That the publicans and the harlots go into the Kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: But the publicans and the harlots believed him.” Matthew 21:31,32. Therefore it is easier by far to reach the publicans and harlots through the gospel than the men and women who rest in their religion or self-righteousness. The poor publican and harlot have nothing to stand on, nothing to commend them. They are condemned in their own conscience; guilty before God. These people Jesus said repented at the preaching of John the Baptist. They were in real need. These people were hungry and thirsty for the living water and the living bread. “In the last day, that great day of the Feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37,38.

They were arguing with Christ about salvation on the basis or grounds of salvation apart from the shed blood of Christ. “And without shedding of blood is no remission,” Hebrews 9:22 or forgiveness of sins. “For this is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Matthew 26:28. “Unto Him (Christ) that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood.” Revelation 1:5.

There is only one basis or foundation upon which any one can be securely saved, and that is on the basis of the shed blood of Christ, which was shed on Golgotha’s Hill, over nineteen hundred years ago. In the 1st Epistle of Peter 1:19 it is recorded as “the precious blood of Christ.” Well then, you say, is there no hope at all in religion? None, my dear Reader. The Apostle Paul threw all his religion away when he got saved on the Damascus road. Listen to him as he related it in this next scripture. “Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.” Philippians 3:4-9. Paul found out that all his religion was only filthy rags. He states further in Galatians 1:13,14. “For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.” There is no zeal like the zeal of error.

Well, my reader, by this time you might ask, What then must I do to be saved? “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31. “Then said they unto Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him (that is Christ) whom He hath sent.” John 6:28,29.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12. One thing a sinner must find out before he can be saved; that he is hopelessly lost and cannot do one thing to gain or merit salvation. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9. You must find out that you can do absolutely nothing to merit salvation. “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” Isaiah 64:6. You must acknowledge the fact that Christ is the only One who can save you. “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Acts 13:38,39.

Dear Reader, if you are unsaved and will believe that Jesus died and rose again for your sins, you can be saved this very moment. Saved for all eternity. You will come into " inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled and that fadeth not away." I Peter 1:4 You will become a child of God, and the child of a King.
