This Is How I Know I Am A Christiant
At my physical birth I was born with a sinful nature – the same nature that Adam and Eve had after they disobeyed God. It draws us away and separates us from God and leads to eternal suffering in hell.

But when I heard that God loved me I turned to Him and asked Him to forgive my sin. And when I received Jesus Christ as my Saviour from sin something happened within. I had a new life. I knew I belonged to God. But soon the devil put doubts into my mind and said, “How do you know that you are a Christian?”

Praise God, He has given us certain proofs whereby we may know that we have been born into God’s family.

The Holy Spirit witnesses to me
This is one of the first proofs:
The Holy Spirit comes to live in me and assures me that now I am God’s child. “The Spirit itself bearers witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” Romans 8:16.

Our body has become “the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:19. “Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us because He hath given us of His Spirit.” 1 John 4:13.

Gently the Holy Spirit whispers to us, “Now you are a child of God.” While we were sinners He convicted us of sin. Now He fills our heart with love, joy, peace – an inner rest we never had before. He is that new, eternal Life from Jesus Who has come to live and work in us.

The Word of God assures me
For we read, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.” John 5:13.

In John 5:24 the Lord Jesus say, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but: is passed from death unto life.”

In Acts 13:39 we read, “And by Him all that believe are justified from all things.” Thus we see that God’s word assures us that believers in the Lord Jesus Christ have eternal life.

So now, when Satan tempts us to doubt our eternal life in Christ Jesus we may resist him with God’s word. Just put your finger on God’s promise and say: “Get behind me, Satan, for God’s word says, ‘he that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.” John 3:36. And Satan will flee, for he is afraid of God’s word.

I love God
Before I was a Christian I was afraid of God. I knew I was a sinner and wanted to hide from Him. But now it is as we read in 1 John 4:19, “We love Him, because He first loved us.” It is wonderful to know that God so loved me that He gave His only Son to die in my place for sin on the cross. How can I help but love Him?

“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable.” 1 Peter 1:8.

Because I love God I want to read His word (the Bible) daily. It is food to my soul. It strengthens me to say “Yes” to Jesus and “No” to Satan.

I also desire to pray to God daily and tell Him everything. For He hears and answers me. Yes, I truly love God and want Him to have first place in my life.

I love God’s people
As soon as we become Christians we sense the love of God in our hearts for other Christians. 1 John 3:14 says “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.” Also Jesus told his followers, “By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35.

My life is changed
I have new desires. For I have become a new person on the inside. Now I hate sin, but I love Christ. 11 Corinthians 5:17 is now true in my life: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

My heart is filled with peace and joy I never had before. It is the peace Jesus promised His followers in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

And I have a different conflict inside me. It is like a spiritual war. The new life draws me to God. And the old sinful nature tries to draw me away from God. It is like we read in Galatians 5:17, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would! But by obeying God’s Holy Spirit we are victorious.

I want to obey my Lord
This is the sixth proof that I am a Christian – I have a desire to please God and do His will.

In 1 John 2:3-5 we read, “And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He that saith, I know Him and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him!

1-2-3-4-5-6
Are these proofs true in your Christian life? If not, it could be that you are starving your soul by neglecting to dally read God’s word and pray. Or you might just think that you are a Christian. Are you sure that you have eternal life? You may KNOW for sure by believing and trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Believe that God “hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” 11 Corinthians 5:21. Jesus Christ took your punishment for sin when He died on the cross of Calvary. But you must come to the Lord Jesus Christ with a repentant heart – ask Him to forgive you – and trust Him as your Saviour from sin. For “he that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.” John 3:36.

The following prayer is an example of one that you can use as you come to God.
“Dear Heavenly Father. I come to You, confessing that I have sinned and broken Your laws. I am sorry for my sin, and believe that Jesus Christ came to earth to die for me and my sins and rose again from the dead that I too might have eternal life. Please forgive me. I invite You into my life, and give Jesus Christ the right to take control of the rest of my life. Please help me to be what You want me to be. I thank you for saving me and accepting me and I pray this in Jesus’ name.” Amen!
