Salvation is of the Lord
What about the unsaved millions in churches and synagogues rejecting the salvation of God, but still pretending to worship a Holy God?
“The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Psalm 27:1 “I even I, am the Lord; and beside Me there is no saviour.” Isaiah 43:11 “Thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation.” Isaiah 17:10 “Salvation is of Jehovah!” Thus declared the Hebrew prophet when he Iay helpless in the bottom of the sea, in the belly of the great fish. “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thine Holy temple… Salvation is of the Lord.” Jonah 2:7-9. “Salvation is of the Lord” learned Abram, father of the faithful, as God said to him, “Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward… And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” Genesis 15:1,6. Thus Abram was first saved and accepted of God, and then circumcised because he was already saved by faith in God‘s Salvation. “Salvation is of the Lord” declared Moses and Israel, as they sang the song of redemption after crossing the Red Sea. “The Lord is my strength and my song, and He is become my Salvation:… Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed.” Exodus 15:2,3.
Here we have represented in Holy Writ, God's true Israel, as a people saved not by observance of holy days, or by keeping the Ten Commandments, but alone by the mercy and power of God Himself. It is only to a people already saved by the Blood of the Lamb, and delivered by the mighty power of God Himself, that Jehovah commanded and demanded the observance of His commandments and holy days!
How unworthy of a holy God and how foolish today are the millions who would try to beat God out of a work that He alone can do, and who would assume to be saved by saying prayers both to the living and for the dead, or by the supposed “good deeds” sinful man could claim to do! How the God of Heaven must be grieved by the “dead sounds” of the hypocritical, pretended devotion and worship of millions who refuse to humble themselves and let God save them by His mercy and power!
Salvation is only of the Lord proclaimed the God-inspired prophets, as they foretold that notable day and coming of the Messiah whose work would be that of the Redeemer, Saviour, Priest, and King: “Hearken unto Me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness… My Salvation shall not tarry: and I will place Salvation in Zion for Israel My glory.” Isaiah 46:12,13. “Behold, thy king cometh unto thee: He is just, (righteous), and having salvation.” Zechariah 9:9.
“Salvation is of the Lord” is further proclaimed and fully experienced by pious Hebrews who believed these divine promises given to them and to us from God through His prophets. Living some centuries later, they embraced by faith the Messiah who came, and the Salvation He brought.
To Joseph, a pious Jew, the angel of Jehovah appeared and commanded that the child to be born of his espoused wife was to be called Jesus [Saviour] for “He shall save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21. To the aged Jewish saint, Simeon, was given the assurance that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah Redeemer prophesied by prophets of old. So he, coming into the Temple when this new-born child was dedicated to the Lord by his mother, took the child into his arms and declared, “Mine eyes have seen Thy Salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of aII people.” Luke 2:30, 31. Again, hear the testimony of the aged Saint John, a witness of this Messiah Christ: “Unto Him that loved us, and washed (freed) us from our sins in His own Blood.” Revelation 1:5.
As Jehovah took back the curtain of Heaven and revealed to this same pious saint that future Heavenly glory of Moses the servant of God and of all the redeemed in Heaven above during the eternal ages to come, let he song of Heaven settle this eternal truth forever: Salvation is of the Lord! “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy… Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy Blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” Revelation 5:9, 7:10.
What about the unsaved millions in churches and synagogues rejecting the Salvation of God, but still pretending to worship a holy God? What a mockery of a God who, by His mercy and power, saved Israel of old from cruel Egyptian bondage, and who today has sent His Messiah Redeemer into the world as His great Salvation; what a mockery and insult are all the millions of prayers of those who would worship the God of Heaven, but reject His full and free Salvation by substituting instead good deeds, dead forms of worship, and all the work of men's hands that human sinners can devise.
What about all such salvation-rejecting worshippers, whether they be Jews or Gentiles, and whether they live in free America, in Israel, or in lands ruled by cruel dictators? “As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not be enquired of by you.” Ezekiel 20:3. “There is none other Name (the name of Messiah Jesus)… whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12.
Shall such worshippers get to Heaven when they die? “There shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever workers abomination, (abominable good deeds and prayers of those who reject God's salvation)… but they which are written in the Lamb‘s book of life.” Revelation 21:27.
