Religion or Salvation - Which Have You?
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there IS none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” Acts 4:12
How clear and concise: there should be neither confusion nor contradiction. There are many names under Heaven in which we can find religion; but salvation can be found in one only. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” Acts 4:12
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23
and so all need a Saviour:
“For the wages of sin is death; but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 6:23
At Calvary He paid sin’s awful penalty for all who will accept Him, but His death there was not to give men religion: it was to provide Salvation.
There is no Salvation in priests, prophets, penance or prayer, but only in Christ. Service and sacraments, churches and charities, tears and treasure, ritual and reformation; all may be good, all may serve a purpose, but all are alike helpless to save for: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” Acts 4:12
Men will readily take their part in church work and ceremonies, while refusing to take their place as guilty sinners needing a sinner’s Saviour. Men are willing to believe the doctrine of God’s Word, while refusing to believe in (not about) the death of God’s Son, who alone, through His death on Calvary, can bestow the priceless gift of Eternal Life. “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life; and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” John 3:36
Religion consists in attention to rites, forms, ceremonies, precepts, laws and commandments: Salvation consists in the imparting of a new life by the receiving of a Person: “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name” John 1:12
We may assent to the teachings of Christianity without accepting the Christ of Christianity. Religion provides us with a robe of righteousness of our own making; but God says “. . . all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” Isaiah 64:6
"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” Proverbs 14:12
Religion is what man does for God. Salvation is what God does for man, (Isaiah 53:6).
Religion says: Something in my hand I bring: Salvation says: Nothing in my hand I bring (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Religion is trusting in a work we do: Salvation is trusting in a work that has been done, (Matthew 26:28).
Religion depends on our behaving: Salvation depends on our believing (Acts 16:31).
Religion says we must act our best: Salvation says we must accept God’s Best, (John 3: 16 and 36).
Religion depends upon the sufficiency of character: Salvation depends on the Sacrifice of the Cross (I Corinthians 1:18).
Religion tries to furnish a sacrifice: Salvation trusts in a finished sacrifice (John 19:30).
Religion is striving for a better attainment: Salvation is secured through a perfect atonement (I Peter 1:18,19).
Religion tries to bring us from darkness to light: but Salvation DOES bring us from death unto life, (John 5:24).
Religion says we must be found in God’s house: Salvation says we must be found in Him, not having our own righteousness which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, (Philippians 3:9).
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved” Acts 4:12
RELIGION OR SALVATION Which Have You?
He came to die, O wondrous grace:
He died to save, He took my place:
He lives to keep at God’s right hand:
He comes to reign o’er every land.
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; but HE was wounded for OUR transgressions HE was bruised for OUR iniquities: and the Lord hath laid on HIM the iniquity of us all” Isaiah 53 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” Acts 16:31 “Christ died for our sins” I Corinthians 15:3 “For by grace (unmerited favor) are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works lest any man should boast” Ephesians 2:8,9
I know I’m a sinner, And Christ is my need.
His death is my ransom; No merit I plead.
His work is sufficient; On Him I believe.
I have life eternal, When Him I receive.
