My Father's House
YEARS ago, I heard a group of youngsters joyously singing a short church chorus. Fervently they raised their voices and the air echoed the simple words with a profound message: “o come and go with me to my Father’s house, to my Father’s house, to my Father’s house; o come and go with me to my Father’s house, where there’s joy, joy all the time.”
In the process of repetition, they substituted the word “joy” with such words as love, peace, hope, praise and prayer. These beautifully reflected the faith and state of God’s children.
To newcomers the clause “my Father’s house” may only mean the little place where they gather for Bible classes and fellowship. To those who know the Lord, “my Father’s house” means far beyond the earthly church building.
“Simon Peter asked, Lord, whither goest Thou? Jesus answered, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for· you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” John 13:36; 14:1-3
“MY FATHER’S HOUSE” is the heavenly home of the believers. The Word of God says: “For ye know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” II Corinthians 5:1
By faith, the patriarch Abraham “looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God” Hebrews 11:10. In “MY FATHER’S HOUSE”, we are assured by God’s Word, “they (the saints) shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” Revelations 7:16,17
“MY FATHER’S HOUSE” welcomes anyone who repents of his sin and receives Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord. God commandeth all men everywhere to repent. He says, “repent ye and believe the Gospel” Mark 1:15. Jesus says, “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name” John 1: 12. This is saving faith! This is conversion! This is assurance of salvation in Christ Jesus Who says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me” John 14:6.
Friend, would you like to live in MY FATHER’S HOUSE? Jesus invites, “Come unto Me… ye shall find rest unto your souls” Matthew 11:28,29. Like the prodigal son, repent and quickly decide, “I will arise and go to my father…” Luke 15:18. Then from the bottom of your heart you can truly sing too, “O come and go with me to MY FATHER’S HOUSE, where there’s joy, joy all the time.”
May the blessed hope of King David rejoice your heart as you personally claim the truth of his song, “… surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord (MY FATHER’S HOUSE) forever.” Psalm 23:6.
