Let's Talk Turkey
Thanksgiving Day could well be called T-Day
T for Turkey and cranberries and all the food that makes this day a festive occasion for families and friends.
T-formations and other football terms make up the conversations in many stadiums and millions of homes.
T for Thanksgiving gets some mention in a few churches and in a few newspaper ads.
With all this on your mind, it’s pretty hard to get your attention, but there are a few things that are mighty important for you. “Let’s talk turkey” means being brief and to the point. Here it is:
You’re having a real fun life: football, food, family, great plans for the future. Ever think about the real future – namely death and the hereafter?
Do you know who you are? No nice compliments now. You’re a sinner. You have evil thoughts; you say wicked things; you don’t live a perfect life.
Well, you say, does sinning matter? You may think you can live your life the way you please, but you should know that sin infuriates the Holy God who created you to be perfect. You’re on your way to damnation – an eternal hell of punishment.
What can you do? Help your neighbor? Go to church? No, not even your best works can change your basic condition. You need to accept Jesus Christ. This means that you acknowledge that you are sinful, accept Christ’s death as payment for your sin, and resolve to lead a godly life.
Becoming a believer and follower of Jesus Christ opens up for you a fabulous vista! You become heir of God’s world! The joys and privileges of a child of God are beyond description!
Why talk about food and fun as if they will last forever? Every Thanksgiving Day brings you one year closer to the Judgment Day. Many who enjoyed last Thanksgiving Day are no longer here. Now is the time of choice!
“God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
