God's Priceless Gift
“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh” Matthew 2:11
Gifts from the treasure houses of kings were laid at the feet of the infant Jesus by men whose hearts rejoiced in the privilege of bowing down in reverence before Him. The devout few took their places alongside the angels of God in proclaiming Him Lord and Saviour.
Gold — Frankincense — Myrrh
Fabulous gifts. Priceless gifts; presented by men whose understanding of holy things brought them across vast desert wastes to deem it an honor to bow in His holy presence. The sacrifice, hardship and self-denial experienced in the journey help us to appreciate the faith of these few who came to worship the Lord of glory.
But why was Jesus here? Did He come from Heaven’s splendor to earth’s squalor merely to receive the gifts of the adoring few? Nay, He had a more noble service than that. His was also a journey of giving.
In John chapter four (v.10) we read “If thou knewest the gift of God… thou wouldest have asked of Him.”
Jesus is the gift of God to a sin stricken world. “For God so loved the world (mankind), that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16. Romans 6:23 tells us that “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Men came to bring Him gifts at His birth, but He gave men the gift of eternal life in His death.
Men brought Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, purchased at a goodly price in the market places of the world. Jesus brought mankind a place at the throne of glory, purchased on the cross of Calvary at the fearful price of His shed blood.
Men brought Him gold earned at the price of toil and sweat. He brought mankind redemption from sin’s curse, paid for by suffering and death.
Men brought Him gold which tarnishes, frankincense which is burned to ashes, and myrrh which loses its savor. He brought to mankind a home in glory; an inheritance which is incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away.
All this is yours to receive in Him
Do you want Heaven as your eternal home? Do you want the sin burden lifted off your soul? Do you want peace with God? Do you want victory over temptation and sin?
You can have all these and many more blessings if you come to Christ in repentance and accept Him as your Saviour and Lord. He broke the sin barrier for you by dying on the cross in full punishment for your sins. If you trust in Him by faith as your crucified Saviour you will receive from Him the gift of eternal life. God’s Word tells us “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” John 3:36. He gave Himself for your salvation. Yes, “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” No wonder we read these words: “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” II Corinthians 9:15
Take God’s priceless gift. Put your faith in Jesus as your Saviour right NOW, will you?
