Does it Cost to Be a Christian?
What must I give up to be a Christian?
Please give me a moment of your time just now so that we might truthfully consider the subject of being a Christian. Does it really cost for a person to be a Christian and live all-out for Jesus Christ?
Some of you are already answering the question “Yes, it would cost giving up many of my friends; it would mean not going to some of the places of amusement that I frequent; it would mean that I must put off the worldly habits that sinners partake of; and so on.” You might name these and other things which you consider as “costs,” but, friends, let’s look at the other side of the picture — What did it cost JESUS CHRIST for you to be a Christian?
It was for you and for me that He stood in Pilate’s hall and was condemned to die; it was for you and me that the mighty Roman scourge, a lachet with nine leather strips — each having a bit of steel in its tip, tore the very flesh from off His body; it was for you and me that He allowed them to place a crown of thorns on His head, mocking Him as they pressed it into His brow; it was for you and me that He carried that old rugged cross to the place of death; it was for you and me that His hands and feet were pierced with spikes, nailing Him on the Cross; it was for you and me that He allowed the Roman soldiers to pick up the Cross and place it into the hole prepared to receive it; it was for you and me that His blood dripped from His body that our sins might be cleansed. You ask the question again and I’ll tell you what it cost to be a Christian! IT COST JESUS HIS VERY ALL. “Who His own self bare OUR SINS in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by Whose stripes ye were healed.” I Peter 2:24
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
Are you willing to accept Him as your personal Saviour? The price has already been paid for your salvation. Yes, you may have to give up a few petty, worldly things; but the scoffers will never place a crown of thorns on your head, they’ll never scourge you with the Roman scourge, they’ll never crucify you on a cross, they’ll never spit in your face, they’ll never give you vinegar to drink. All this has been done for you — IN YOUR PLACE.
Will you accept Jesus as your personal Saviour today? God is willing to save you right now. “Now is the accepted time.” II Corinthians 6:2. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 Salvation is free, therefore, it cannot be bought by good works, prayers, religious ceremonies, etc. “The wages of sin is death; but the (FREE) GIFT of God is eternal life.” Romans 6:23. “Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:9.
What must I do to receive this gift? “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou SHALT be saved.” Acts 16:31. Let Jesus come into your heart — right now. “As many as RECEIVED HIM, to them gave He power to become the sons of God.” John 1:12.
